Ice Ice Baby! ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge has taken social media by storm! We have witnessed friends, family, celebrities and organizations from across the nation dumping buckets of freezing-cold ice water on their heads! Our very own PR team grabbed their buckets, donated to the cause and called out the Creative department and our Philly office.

No, this challenge is not just for our personal enjoyment, but to raise money for and awareness of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), often referred to as “Lou Gehrig’s Disease.” It is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. ALS interferes with the brain’s ability to initiate and control muscle movement. When the disease progresses, patients may become completely paralyzed. The loss of motor ability eventually causes death. There is no cure for ALS, but new drugs and therapies can slow the progression of this debilitating disease.

How does this challenge work? It’s simple! You video yourself dumping a bucket of ice water over your head and nominate someone else to do the same! If the person you challenge does not complete the task within 24 hours, he or she must donate $100 to the cause. What is truly awesome is how much attention this challenge has gotten! In the past two weeks alone, the ALS Association and its 38 chapters have gained 70,000 donors and received $4 million in donations! Who knew that pouring ice water over your head could make such a difference?

Join the movement. Spread awareness of ALS and donate to the cause. Help create a world without ALS!
