S.T.A.T. Reporting Part III: Automation Unlocks the Power of Live Data

Share:

By now, if you’ve been following part one and part two of this series, you know what S.T.A.T. stands for: Simple, Truthful, Actionable and Timely. In this third installment, I wanted to offer the perspective of a web developer and discuss how S.T.A.T. reporting works best within live reporting dashboards.

Dashboards provide the data. Reports give it meaning.

Within our HireControl™ platform, we provide a live reporting dashboard designed to offer real-time visibility into what’s happening across our clients’ recruitment marketing campaigns. The dashboard presents live metrics for job views, apply clicks, and source attribution — it’s all there.

That kind of live access is genuinely valuable for speed, convenience and timely action. But here’s what a dashboard can’t do on its own: it can’t tell you why something is happening. It can’t prioritize what matters most out of dozens of data points. It can’t provide the context that turns a number into a decision. And it can’t show up in a client’s inbox on Monday morning with a clear recommendation attached.

That’s where S.T.A.T. reporting comes in — and where automation makes both tools exponentially more useful.

Automation closes the loop.

Overcoming the time between live data and reporting is one of the biggest obstacles to making S.T.A.T. reporting work at its full potential. Knowing this, we’ve begun testing an automated reporting feature built on top of HireControl’s live data. By building in reporting logic around S.T.A.T. principles, we’re able to automate a report that eliminates the lag, synthesizes data points and provides timely reports that can be acted upon. The early results and feedback we’ve received have been amazing. Here’s what we’re seeing in S.T.A.T. terms:

Simple. We’re using a standardized design format structured around what our clients actually want to see. We’re also able to evolve our reports to provide data analysis in simple terms to answer the questions our clients want answered.

Truthful. The data is accurate because it’s pulled directly from our live dashboard, which means no manual pulls, copy and pastes or mismatched data from different versions. Everything in our reporting comes from a single source of truth.

Actionable. The combination of live dashboard data and automated reporting is genuinely powerful. The dashboard surfaces the signal. The automated report frames it as an insight with a recommended next step. While the dashboard tells you traffic is trending up, the report tells you the source and what you should do about it.

Timely. Reporting that comes from live data and outputs on a set schedule. The reliability and automation create a regular pulse check for our clients and our strategists — allowing both to work together to make adjustments to active campaigns, site data or to rapidly react to changes in market — allowing both to work together to make adjustments to active campaigns, site data or to rapidly react to changes in the market. Automation is what changes the game for S.T.A.T. reporting.

A report you will actually read.

The best feedback we’ve received about our automated reports is how good they make our clients look. The information is tailored to their reporting needs, they know exactly how to read the reports, they can get right into the heart of the data in meetings, and the focus of meetings turns toward how to improve rather than what to do.

Imagine getting a Monday morning report delivered to your inbox that tells you: “Here are the three things worth your attention this week, here’s why each one matters, and here’s what should be done about it.” No dashboard login required. No data interpretation necessary. Just the information needed to walk into a weekly leadership meeting confidently knowing exactly how your recruitment marketing is performing.

That’s the report we’re delivering with S.T.A.T. principles, and it’s a game changer.

The dashboard and the report are better together.

Dashboards, like the one we’ve built in HireControl, are certainly powerful tools on their own — but data access and data understanding are two different things. Automated S.T.A.T. reports can close that gap by clarifying data, offering solutions to problems and minimizing the additional work of building reports.

The combination of S.T.A.T. reporting within HireControl isn’t just delivering better data, it’s providing a better understanding of that data.
